On a very recent trip to Los Angeles, I could not help but notice that California really is geared up towards helping the environment and trying to get as many schemes in place as possible whereby people end up sharing a car on their drive to work. Indeed, they even have car-share lanes that are only to be used by those who are taking advantage of such a scheme.
As a way of making cars more affordable to the average Joe, perhaps some sort of Car Deals where a number of people share the expense of the vehicle may be in order? After all, we are all aware of the fact that the number of vehicles on our roads continually increases and this shows no signs of stopping.
Now is an excellent time for communities to come together and start to get their heads around this important issue. People who travel to the same place of work would transpire to be the most ideal candidates for this scheme.
In countries like China they have already taken the bull by the horns and restricted the number of vehicles on their roads. One common method seems to be to stipulate that all even car registrations can use the roads on one day and then the odds on the next.
This may well be something that our own Government may feel forced to introduce, if we continue to adopt the selfish driving mentality that we have at the moment.
